What is a Lymphatic Drainage Massage?

Lymphatic drainage massage gently targets the lymphatic system, which is located just under your skin. It is a manual way to flush toxins out of the body, and boost our immune system by getting rid of old, excess waste, which can get trapped in our body.

At Haley Marie Wellness we use bio drainage technology to help mimic the manual movement that stimulates lymphatic circulation. It is a very gentle and relaxing process.

Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage:

Lymphatic drainage is a great tool to use in order to relieve bloating and puffiness in the body caused by fluid retention. Generally healthy individuals may use this as a treatment to:

  • Effectively breaks down cellulite and fat tissue in the body

  • Reduces swelling and puffiness caused by water retention

  • Helps eliminate fluid build up post surgery.

  • Reduces the density and stiffness of deep scar tissue

  • Helps promote the stimulation of collagen in the skin

  • Gives skin a health glow.

  • Provides relaxation throughout the body.

*** For cellulite break down and scar tissue a minimum of 3 sessions is generally required for visible results.***

*** For post surgical treatment always check with your medical professional before booking a session.***

Benefits of Lymphatic drainage: post surgery

Depending on the type of surgical procedure you receive, it is relatively safe to receive Lymphatic Drainage and may even be recommended by your medical professional. This process will help speed up the elimination of bodily fluid in the body that naturally occurs post surgery.

Lymphatic Drainage may also help soften scar tissue that occurs post surgery, by breaking up stubborn fibers, and make movement around the area less tight and more mailable.

Benefits of Lymphatic drainage for chronic conditions

Lymphatic drainage massages are often used to relieve lymphedema following breast cancer surgery. Other conditions that benefit from lymphatic drainage massages are:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis: This is ongoing arthritis in your joints causing joint pain, swelling and stiffness.

  • Fibromyalgia: This condition causes chronic muscle and joint pain.

  • Chronic venous insufficiency: This happens when your leg veins aren’t working effectively, making it hard for your blood to return to your heart from your legs.

  • Lipedema: This happens when excess fat accumulates in your lower body, blocking your lymphatic pathway and causing lymphedema.

***The contraindications to lymphatic drainage are the same as for most techniques: fever, infection, wounds or skin problems and history of heart problems. Precautions should be taken in the case of a person with cancer, asthma, renal failure, hyperthyroidism, low blood pressure, phlebitis, large painful varicose veins, abdominal surgery or inflammation in the acute phase. Always check with your doctor before starting any new holistic therapy.***
